Welcome to the Website of GEORGE PATTERSON

Home Page

Hello there everyone welcome to the George Patterson
Webpages.
I'm George Patterson and I live in Nelson Village in Cramlington, Northumberland.
I was educated at Cramlington Primary and Cramlington County Secondary Schools which both now form what is now known wholly as Parkside School.
I left school in 1965 to work at Chapman's the furnishers in Newcastle at their shop when it was sited on the corner of Jesmond Road.
There I learnt all the rudiments of serving the public and the furnishing trade.
After four years I left to work in a commission based furnishing establishment called Rutland Furnishing who belonged to a nationwide furnishing company called Wades Departmental Stores, based in Sheffield.
After two and a half years approximately I left to go to work in the Bainbridge Department Store, the first Department Store in the World I might add.
I began by selling Whitewood Furniture, which was otherwise known as Ready to Paint and Self Assembly Furniture.
After a year in this department I moved onto Fitted Kitchens and Kitchen Tables and Chairs and quickly settled into a very enjoyable working atmosphere.
During that time I was involved with Kitchen Planning which involved drawing up Kitchen plans etc which I really enjoyed.
After 12 years in that department I moved on to the Carpet Department in Bainbridge, a trade I'd been heavilly involved with in my previous employments.
I am still in the Bainbridge Carpet Department today having worked at Bainbridge who belong to the John Lewis Partnership for a total of 31 years next April.
During my time at Rutlands I became aquainted with a chap called Hudson Stoker and we have been firm friends since, having shared holidays in such places as Ibiza, Majorca, Singapore, Malaysia, Penang, California, Corfu, Halkidiki and Skiathos.
Skiathos is the Greek Island that we both discovered in 1987 and we have continued to visit the Island annually since.
Outside of work I am interested in athletics.
My club is Morpeth Harriers and I act as an official at various meetings, I do a bit of coaching and I am the Press Officer for the club.
With my friend Hudson Stoker we have set up the Morpeth Harriers Website which can be found at morpethharriers.freeservers.com
